In which the deputy commissioner praised the civil and police officials for receiving the award of the best performing district to district Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar (Navanshahr) for the prevention of drug abuse among children. Meanwhile, during a simple function held at the district administrative complex, Deputy Commissioner Navjot Pal Singh Randhawa has received this award due to the hard work of civil and police administration officials. SSP Dr Mehtab Singh was also present.
Deputy Commissioner Navjot Pal Singh Randhawa said that during the event held at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi on June 30, State Home Minister Mr. Nityanand Rai ji and Chairperson of National Child Rights Commission, New Delhi Mr. Priyank Kanungo, SDM Nawanshahr Akshita Gupta, Assistant Commissioner General. Gurleen Kaur and District Child Protection Officer Kanchan Arora were honored with the Best Performing Award for District Nawan Shahr.
Expressing his happiness, he said that the above joint action plan is being implemented in the district for the last three years. And to implement this action plan, Education Department, Health Department, Child Protection Department, Excise Department, Child Welfare Committee, District Drug Control Authority as well as Police Department have contributed. And in district Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, more and more activities have been drawn up to prevent drug abuse among children. Due to which district Nawan Shahr has been declared as the best performing district. He said that the District Magistrate has ordered all medical/pharmacy shops in the district under Section 133 of CrPC not to sell drugs under Schedule XH and H1 to children below 18 years of age and all medical / CCTV cameras should be installed in pharmacy shops, due to which CCTV cameras have been installed in about 195 shops in the district and more than 498 shops have been inspected.
The Education Department has formed 106 Prevention Clubs in secondary schools which conduct various activities (such as painting competitions, song competitions, elocution competitions and rallies) to keep children away from drugs. 2544 activities have been conducted in schools during the last two years by the anti-drug clubs and about 32 training programs have been conducted by the police department. In the last two years, 183 awareness programs have been conducted by the District Child Protection Department to ensure the safety of children and to keep children away from drug abuse while implementing the above action plan. And the Child Protection Committees formed at the village and block level have also been given corner dramas to prevent drug abuse among children. Along with this, 150 awareness camps have been organized by the District Social Security Office So that maximum public can be made aware about this. There is no sale of drugs or alcohol within 100 meters of all government schools under the district.
Meanwhile, SSP Dr. Mehtab Singh said that the police department is working strictly to curb drugs. Action was taken by cutting leaflets under about 70 NDP S Act. Strict action is being taken against drug sellers, youth are being encouraged to stay away from drugs through cricket matches and cycle rallies. From time to time, the youth has been made aware about the ill effects of drugs by conducting plays and other programs in schools and colleges. He said that about 193 seminars by the department can also keep the youth away from drugs.
