Safety first: 13 government schools in the district to remain closed - Deputy Commissioner.

Hoshiarpur- Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain said that a decision has been taken to keep 13 government schools in the district affected by the recent heavy rains and floods closed from September 9 under further orders. These include 8 primary and 5 upper primary schools. The Deputy Commissioner clarified that the safety of students and teachers is the main priority of the administration. The affected schools will be opened only when the buildings, road connectivity and other basic facilities are completely safe.

She said that the district administration is constantly monitoring the situation and necessary steps are being taken in collaboration with the education department. Sharing information received from District Education Officer Lalita Arora, Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain said that out of the total 491 upper primary schools in the district, 5 schools will remain closed and 486 schools will open from Tuesday.
The schools that will remain closed include Government Senior Secondary School Gondpur, Government Middle School Hakumatpur, Government Middle School Bhatolian, Government Middle School Haled Janardan and Government High School Phuglana. Similarly, 8 schools out of 1220 primary schools in the district will remain closed. These include Government Primary School Sahib Da Pind, Ludhiani, Denowal Kalan, Mona Khurd, Rupowal, Jahidpur Jattan, Haled Janardan and Bains Awan.
The Deputy Commissioner appealed to the parents not to send their children to the affected schools and to follow the instructions issued by the administration. He assured that the cleaning and repair work of all the affected schools is being done on priority basis so that the education of the students is minimally affected.
