Sri Anandpur Sahib:- Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann announced that a world-class university will be established here in the name of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji. Mann was addressing the congregation during a martyrdom ceremony dedicated to the 350th martyrdom day of the ninth Guru, Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji.
He said, “A world-class university will be established here (Sri Anandpur Sahib) in the name of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji.”
Earlier, AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal had appealed to Mann to announce the establishment of a world-class educational institution in Anandpur Sahib. Mann further announced that free e-rickshaw or mini bus service will be started for people to visit the gurdwaras of Amritsar, Talwandi Sabo in Bathinda district and Anandpur Sahib in Rupnagar district.
Mann further said that the state government will bear the cost of the free e-rickshaw or minibus service. The Chief Minister also said that a heritage street will also be built in Anandpur Sahib. These latest announcements come a day after the Punjab Vidhan Sabha unanimously declared Anandpur Sahib, Talwandi Sabo and the walled city of Amritsar as holy cities.
On Monday, Mann had said that the Punjab government will grant the walled city of Amritsar, Talwandi Sabo and Anandpur Sahib the status of holy cities. The sale and use of meat, liquor, tobacco and other intoxicants will be banned in these cities.
Earlier, Mann and Kejriwal attended a large gathering here to pray for the progress of the state and the prosperity of Punjabis. Both the leaders participated in the Ardas (prayer) offered after the Bhog of Sri Akhand Path Sahib to commemorate the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji and the great Sikh martyrs Bhai Mati Das, Bhai Sati Das and Bhai Dayala Ji at Gurdwara Baba Budha Dal Cantonment.
