Karnal, March 27:- The Municipal Corporation of Karnal has initiated the replacement of old and damaged pipelines across various parts of the city to enhance the water supply infrastructure. Providing details regarding this initiative, Municipal Commissioner Dr. Vaishali Sharma stated that the Corporation has issued four tenders, and the work has been allotted to qualified agencies. An estimated total sum of ?4.68 crore (?4,68,99,000) will be spent on these four projects.
She further informed that the work of replacing pipelines in the Shiv Colony and Shamshad Bagh areas has already been completed, while work is currently in progress in Azad Nagar, near the Nirankari Bhawan. Under this project, Ductile Iron (DI) pipelines with diameters of 3 inches, 4 inches, and 6 inches will be replaced or newly laid in various areas, as per requirements. She added that these projects also include the installation of a new tube well and the construction of a pump chamber in the Sandhu Colony area, which will further strengthen the water supply system within the colony.
She stated that following the replacement of the pipelines, residents in the affected areas will have access to clean and adequate quantities of water, thereby providing relief from the persistent problem of contaminated water supply. Additionally, she appealed to citizens not to establish illegal connections to the main pipelines without proper authorization, noting that the majority of pipeline leakage issues stem from precisely such unauthorized connections.
**A Special Appeal for Water Conservation:** Making a special appeal to citizens regarding water conservation, she emphasized that water is an invaluable resource, and its preservation is a collective responsibility shared by all. She urged residents to prevent the unnecessary wastage of water in their homes, ensure that taps are not left running, install alarm systems to prevent water tanks from overflowing, and adopt rainwater harvesting practices. He further stated that, in order to ensure the continued availability of clean water, citizens should refrain from tampering with pipelines in any way and should immediately report any leaks or instances of water wastage to the Municipal Corporation. Only the proper utilization and conservation of water will ensure a secure future for generations to come.
Pipelines to be Replaced in These Areas: He informed that the areas where pipelines are scheduled to be replaced include Man Colony, Jyoti Nagar, Duggal Colony, Pratap Public School Lane, the branch lane off Rawar Hospital Road, Adarsh Nagar, Scooter Market Road, Ram Bagh, Shamshad Bagh (near the Old Vegetable Market), Sandhu Colony, Matak Majri, Baso Gate, Karan Vihar, Bhim Nagar, Shiv Colony, Vijay Nagar, the stretch from the Kaithal Road Railway Overbridge to Hansi Chowk and Talwar Chowk, the route from Dhobi Mohalla to Kalandari Gate (via Ram Gali), Surya Kuan, Jodia Kuan, Shambhu Nath Mohalla, the route from Kot Mohalla to Jundla Gate, Meera Ghati, the route from Muglon Mohalla to Jaton Gate, Bhaton Mohalla, and Kumharon Mohalla.
