Patiala, June 22, 2026:- The Punjab Forest Department Workers’ Union (Regd.) is actively engaging with the Punjab Government to ensure the implementation of long-pending demands of daily-wage workers employed in the Forest Department.
In a press statement, State President Balvir Singh Mandoli, State General Secretary Veerpal Singh Bammana, and Vice President Major Singh Bahera stated that a recent meeting was held with Punjab Government Sub-Committee Chairman and Finance Minister Mr. Harpal Singh Cheema to raise issues concerning daily-wage workers serving under the Forest Department.
The union leaders pointed out that many workers have been serving the department for more than two decades but have yet to be regularized. They demanded that workers whose service records reflect fewer than 240 working days in certain years should not be deprived of regularization benefits and that their complete years of service should be considered while determining eligibility.
According to the union, the sub-committee agreed in principle with the demand and assured that steps would be taken to regularize the remaining eligible workers of the Forest Department. The committee has reportedly sought a report within 15 days regarding the workers who are yet to be regularized.
The union leaders further stated that they are continuously pursuing the matter with Forest and Wildlife Preservation Minister Mr. Lal Chand Kataruchak, the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Punjab, and the Chief Secretary (Forests), Punjab Government, through meetings held at the Forest Complex, Sector 68, SAS Nagar (Mohali).
They warned that if the government and the concerned department fail to seriously address the issues and demands of forest workers, the Punjab Forest Department Workers’ Union will launch a statewide agitation. The proposed movement will be organized constituency-wise across Punjab, and the dates of the protests will be announced after consultations and meetings within the organization.
The union urged the Punjab Government to immediately regularize long-serving daily-wage forest workers and grant them the rights and benefits they deserve after years of dedicated service.
