Hoshiarpur:- Under the “War Against Drugs” campaign being run by the Punjab Government, as per the guidelines of Deputy Commissioner Hoshiarpur Mrs. Ashika Jain (IAS), District De-Addiction and Rehabilitation Society Hoshiarpur organized an awareness workshop at Rayat Behra Professional University, Hoshiarpur. This program was organized under the leadership of Deputy Medical Commissioner Hoshiarpur Dr. Swati Shimar and in the coordination of Dr. Sukhmeet Kaur Bedi.
On this occasion, MLA of Halqa Chabbewal Dr. Ishank Kumar Chabbewal attended as the chief guest. Apart from this, Dr. Jasleen Kaur Medical Officer Incharge District De-Addiction Rehabilitation Center, Nisha Rani Manager, Prashant Adia Counselor and Tehreen Basra Fellow Mental Health were also present. During the workshop, Dr. Ishank Kumar Chabbewal motivated the youth to stay away from drugs and move forward with hard work. He said that it is the common responsibility of everyone to save the young generation from drug addiction. He encouraged the youth to spread awareness by becoming village watchmen and VDC members and said that if we become aware from today itself, we can make our Punjab colorful Punjab again.
Deputy Medical Commissioner Dr. Swati Shimar said that drug addiction is a serious social and health problem and continuous awareness is very important to prevent it. She appealed to the youth to adopt a healthy lifestyle. Tehreen Basra gave detailed information about the activities being carried out under the war on drugs campaign like Soorma program, village watchmen program and awareness at the public level.
On this occasion, lectures and skits were presented by the students on the ill effects of drug addiction. 59 students of the university participated in the poster making competition. Pallavi Devi and Neha Kumari secured first place in the competition, Shivani and Amandeep secured second place, while Nitika and Hitansha secured third place.
