Hoshiarpur: District Election Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain today held a meeting with representatives of various political parties to review preparations regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists being initiated in Punjab by the Election Commission of India. She informed that, under the schedule issued by the Election Commission, BLOs (Booth Level Officers) in the district will conduct door-to-door visits from June 25, 2026, to July 24, 2026, to assist voters in filling out the prescribed forms.
The Deputy Commissioner stated that, in accordance with the directives of the Election Commission of India, this entire process will be conducted with transparency, impartiality, and strict adherence to established rules, ensuring that the name of every eligible citizen is included in the voter list while the names of ineligible individuals are removed. She clarified that, under the SIR initiative, it will be mandatory for all voters to fill out the forms provided by the BLOs.
During the meeting, the District Election Officer informed that the training of BLOs and all other preparatory arrangements will be completed between June 15 and June 24, 2026. She further noted that, under the pre-SIR mapping exercise, the mapping of 1,114,487 voters—out of a total of 1,268,522 voters in the district—has already been completed, accounting for 87.86 percent of the total electorate. She added that the rationalization of polling stations will be completed by July 24, 2026, and the draft voter list will be published on July 31, 2026.
She informed that claims and objections regarding the voter lists will be received from July 31 to August 30, 2026, while the disposal of these matters will be completed by September 28, 2026. Following the resolution of all claims and objections, the final voter list will be published on October 1, 2026. Appealing to all political parties in the district, the District Election Officer urged them to cooperate with the administration in ensuring the successful and transparent execution of this special campaign. Furthermore, he encouraged them to appoint their respective Booth Level Agents and to motivate voters to provide the necessary documents in a timely manner.
Present on this occasion were Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Nikas Kumar, Election Kanungo Lakhbir Singh, along with other representatives including Jai Ram from the Aam Aadmi Party, Rajneesh Tandon from the Indian National Congress, Bhushan Kumar Sharma and Advocate Gaurav Garg from the Bharatiya Janata Party, Gurinder Singh Goldy from the Shiromani Akali Dal (B), and Balwinder Kumar from the Samaj Bhalai Morcha.
