Ambala, January 19:- Two Rajya Sabha seats from Haryana are about to fall vacant and politicians eyeing these seats have already started their moves. This time, the Sikh community of Haryana has also decided to strongly stake their claim for the Rajya Sabha seat. In a statement issued here today, Haryana Sikh Forum President Jasdeep Singh Bedi demanded that this time a Sikh from Haryana should be sent to the Rajya Sabha.
Bedi said that no Sikh face was included in the Saini cabinet while some Sikh MLA has been included in the cabinet in the previous governments. He said that the reason for the defeat of BJP candidates in most of the Sikh-dominated constituencies in the 2024 assembly elections was anger among Sikhs against the BJP.
Haryana Sikh Forum President Jasdeep Singh Bedi said that on February 12, 2017, the then Chief Minister Manohar Lal had announced to establish a university in the name of Guru Gobind Singh Ji in the Ambala Lok Sabha constituency, but this initiative has not been completed yet.
He disclosed that the Haryana government had organized a state-level religious gathering in Karnal on February 12, 2017 to celebrate the 350th Parkash Purb of Guru Gobind Singh Ji. In this gathering, the then Chief Minister Manohar Lal had announced to establish a university in the name of Guru Gobind Singh Ji in Ambala, Panchkula or Yamunanagar.
Bedi said that before Chief Minister Manohar Lal's announcement, the Bharatiya Janata Party had promised to establish a Guru Gobind Singh University in Ambala or Panchkula in its 2014 election manifesto. After the BJP government came to power in Haryana in 2014, Sikh organizations in Haryana started pressuring the government to fulfill its promise and Chief Minister Manohar Lal announced it, but the promise remained unfulfilled.
Similarly, the announcement regarding the construction of the Sikh memorial was also not fulfilled, which created a lot of anger in the Sikh community.
