Una, October 6:- The District Legal Services Authority, Una, organized an awareness programme at Government Senior Secondary School, Chak Sarai, for students from Classes 7 to 12 on drug abuse, its harmful effects and eradication of drug abuse. The objective of the programme was to make students aware of the adverse consequences of drug abuse and motivate them to stay away from drugs and play an active role in building a drug-free society.
Shikha Lakhanpal, Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Una, provided students with information about the key provisions of the NALSA (Legal Services to Victims of Drug Abuse and Eradication of Drug Abuse) Scheme, 2015, the NALSA DAWN (Drug Awareness and Wellness Navigation – For a Drug Free India) Scheme, 2025, and the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS Act).
She apprised the students of the physical, mental and social adverse effects of drug abuse and also provided detailed information about various measures for preventing drug abuse. She said that awareness, family support and positive thinking among youth are extremely important for preventing drug abuse. The students were urged to stay away from drugs and also make their peers and other members of society aware of their harmful consequences.
During the programme, students were also informed about the role of law enforcement agencies and legal services institutions in preventing drug abuse. They were also made aware of the free legal aid and other support services available to persons affected by drug abuse and those in need.
On the occasion, students were motivated to become aware and sensitive towards the issue of drug abuse and ensure their active participation in building a healthy, safe and drug-free society.
