Nawanshahr, October 4 (Des Raj Bali):- Upkar Coordination Society, a social service organisation dedicated to creating awareness for the prevention of social evils, will organise speech competitions to understand the thinking of the youth and will undertake special initiatives based on constructive suggestions. Accordingly, speech competitions on various subjects will be organised in educational institutions. Written speeches of every participant will also be collected, and participants will be honoured according to their rankings based on the judgment given by the judges.

These views were expressed at a meeting of the society held at “Giran Bhawan” in the local Guru Nanak Nagar, which was presided over by President J.S. Gidda. General Secretary Rana Parvinder Singh welcomed the president on his return to the country after four months and conducted the meeting. He also expressed satisfaction over the progress of the free courses in cutting and sewing and embroidery being conducted for girls under the society’s vocational training programme.

Upkar women members will hold a meeting with the students of the cutting, sewing and embroidery batch currently running at the local Doaba Sikh National Senior Secondary School, obtain information from them and provide constructive suggestions to the society for the future.

It was decided that a delegation of the executive committee of Upkar Society would visit the tournament to be held at the stadium in the first week of November to observe the unique work being undertaken by the villages of Chak Guru and Samundra in the field of sports. Action will be taken to give this project the status of a role model for the promotion of sports.

Madam Harbans Kaur was extended best wishes for her foreign trip. The Blood Donors Council, Nawanshahr, donated two sewing machines with two tables to the society for free cutting, sewing and embroidery training, and the society expressed its gratitude to the organisation.
