Una, March 2: Chief Medical Officer, Una, Dr. Sanjeev Verma, announced that a special vaccination campaign will be launched starting March 29 to prevent the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) and the serious disease known as cervical cancer. Under this campaign, special vaccinations will be conducted in Una district on March 29, April 5, and April 12. Adolescent girls aged 14 to 15 will be vaccinated. To ensure the success of this campaign, the department will conduct house-to-house registration of all government and private schools and migrant worker families by March 10 and complete the online registration process by March 20.
He explained that Human Papillomavirus (HPV), or cervical cancer, is one of the most common infections globally and is the second-leading cancer among women in India. If not prevented in time, this virus can lead to serious diseases like cervical cancer. He stated that HPV-related diseases can be effectively prevented through timely vaccination, safe behavior, regular screening, and widespread public awareness.
The Chief Medical Officer stated that vaccination will not be administered on an empty stomach, and adolescent girls will be kept under observation for half an hour after vaccination to ensure immediate medical attention in case of any potential adverse reactions. He stated that to ensure the campaign's success, ASHA workers, Anganwadi workers, self-help groups, and Panchayati Raj institutions, as well as the Education Department, have been urged to educate parents about HPV infection and the importance of vaccination during parent meetings held in schools.
