Una, September 30:- Special Gram Sabhas will be held on October 2 in Amlehar of Gagret Development Block; Thanakalan and Plahata of Bangana; and Samoor Kalan, Dangoli, Basoli, Tabba, Madanpur, Lamlehari and Jhamber Gram Panchayats of Una Development Block under the Watershed Scheme. This information was given by District Development Officer, Una, Ramanveer Chauhan. He said that various works undertaken under the Watershed Development Programme with the objective of promoting water conservation, natural resource management and rural livelihoods will be showcased during the Special Gram Sabhas to be held on October 2.
He said that works related to water conservation, including ponds, check dams, treatment of drains and Amrit Sarovars, will be displayed with photographs and detailed information during the Gram Sabhas. These works have provided direct and indirect benefits to approximately 200 to 300 people in each Panchayat. Besides, incense-stick and paper-plate making machines, agricultural equipment and livelihood activities being undertaken by women of Self-Help Groups will also be displayed, benefiting around 400 to 600 people in each Panchayat.
He appealed to the villagers to participate in the Gram Sabhas in maximum numbers, obtain information about the works being carried out under the Watershed Scheme and the benefits accruing from them, and also provide their suggestions. The objective of these Gram Sabhas is to increase the participation of villagers and ensure public cooperation in water conservation, livelihood promotion and the creation of self-reliant villages.
