Una, October 9:- On the occasion of World Mental Health Day, the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Una, in coordination with the Health Department, organised special mental health camps and awareness programmes at the District Jail in Bangarh and the Observation Home-cum-Place of Safety in Samoor Kalan. The objective of these programmes was to promote the mental health of inmates and juveniles residing at the observation home and to make them aware of essential health and legal services.

On this occasion, Shikha Lakhanpal, Secretary of the District Legal Services Authority, Una, visited the District Jail in Bangarh and interacted with the inmates. She discussed various aspects related to their welfare, mental health, emotional balance and access to legal services. They were also made aware of the importance of mental health and encouraged to take care of their emotional well-being.

Subsequently, Secretary Shikha Lakhanpal also visited the Observation Home-cum-Place of Safety in Samoor Kalan and interacted with the juveniles residing there. Discussions were held on matters related to their health, emotional needs, welfare and overall development. The juveniles were sensitised to mental health, the adoption of positive thinking, and the importance of seeking appropriate guidance and assistance to resolve their problems.

As part of the programme, a medical officer and a psychologist from the Health Department, Una, conducted health check-ups of the juveniles residing at the Observation Home in Samoor Kalan and assessed their mental health needs. Meanwhile, a visit by a medical officer and a psychologist to the District Jail in Bangarh has been scheduled for October 11 to conduct health check-ups of the inmates and assess their mental health needs.

Through these programmes, the District Legal Services Authority aims to raise awareness about mental health, understand the emotional needs of individuals requiring support, and facilitate access to essential health services and legal assistance.
