Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar, 09 October, 2026:- During changing weather elderly need to take special precautions regarding their health. Due to sudden change in temperature, elderly can have problems like cold, cough, throat trouble, breathing related problems, blood pressure and joint pain. This was said by Dr. Isha Arora at Civil Hospital Mohali while addressing patients regarding International Elderly Day.

Medical expert Dr. Isha said that with increasing age body's ability to fight diseases may decrease somewhat and those elderly who already have blood pressure, sugar, heart or breathing disease, they should remain more careful at time of weather change.

She said that elderly should wear clothes according to weather and should protect from cold in morning-evening. There should be proper ventilation arrangement at home and should avoid contact with too much cold or dust-smoke.

Doctor said that elderly should take nutritious and balanced diet. Quantity of water should also be kept proper according to age and medical advice. Medicines should not be stopped or started without medical advice and regular checkup of blood pressure and sugar should be done.

She said that elderly should continue light exercise or walk according to their capability. However in case of too much fatigue, breathlessness, pain in chest, continuous cough-fever, dizziness or sudden weakness, immediate medical advice should be taken.
