Sangrur, April 18:- SSP Sangrur Sartaj Singh Chahal (IPC) informed that while taking action during the “War Against Drugs” and “Village Guards” campaigns, Sangrur District Police registered 27 drug cases from April 10 to April 17, arrested 48 accused and seized 293 grams of heroin, 10 kg of poppy husk, 123 grams of charas, 1934 narcotic pills and Rs. 2500/- drug money. 03 cases were registered against those involved in the liquor business, 03 accused were arrested and 18 liters of domestic liquor and 165 liters of lahan were seized.
Apart from this, 01 case was registered under the Gambling Act and 01 accused was arrested and Rs. 4700/- was recovered.
The public was also appealed to cooperate in the anti-drug campaign. The general public is being made aware about the ill effects of drugs by holding meetings/contact meetings with Panchayats/Sports Clubs/Sexual Men.
During this period, various Gazetted Officers/Chief Officers held meetings with the general public in 44 villages/cities to make the youth aware about the ill effects of drugs and the general public was motivated to inform the police about the smugglers involved in the drug trade so that the scourge of drugs can be eradicated from the root. Concrete efforts are being made to prevent drugs by taking action against drug dealers and bad elements. The war against drugs continues.
