Una, December 4: The rice being distributed under the Public Distribution System in the district is completely safe and fortified rice (rice enriched with nutrients). District Controller of Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs, Una, Rajiv Sharma, stated that a misconception is spreading among some ration card holders in the district that plastic rice is being found in the rice distributed through fair price shops under the Public Distribution System.
He clarified that such information is completely baseless and incorrect. The few grains that appear different in the rice are not plastic, but fortified rice (rice enriched with nutrients), which is prepared under a government-prescribed process.
Rajiv Sharma stated that the government has ensured that fortified rice is made available to consumers through the Public Distribution System, so that citizens can get additional nutrients and vitamins in addition to regular rice.
He stated that fortified rice contains iron, folic acid, and vitamin B12, which meet FSSAI standards, helping to address nutritional deficiencies in consumers.
The District Controller appealed to all consumers not to pay attention to any rumors or misconceptions. He stated that the fortified rice being distributed through fair price shops is completely safe and beneficial.
