Chandigarh (Bahadur Singh):- A special meeting of the association of retired teachers of Chandigarh was held today at Saini Bhawan, Sector 24, Chandigarh, under the chairmanship of association president Bahadar Singh Gosal. A large number of retired teachers and officers from the UT participated in the meeting.
During the meeting, members expressed their disappointment that although Chandigarh is known as a beautiful city and an educational hub, it does not have a dedicated Teacher Bhawan for teachers. They appealed to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who is scheduled to visit Chandigarh on November 1, 2026, to gift the city a “Teacher Bhawan” on the auspicious occasion. Teachers in the UT have been demanding such a facility for a long time.
The retired teachers and officers who attended the meeting included Krishan Kumar Tejpal, Dr. Gulzar Singh, Madam Vikramjit Kaur, Nirmal Saini, Harbans Kaur, General Secretary Sumesh Verma, Gyan Chand, Sardar Gurpal Singh, Rohini Sharma, Tarjit Singh and Jeet Singh Somal.
Association president Bahadar Singh Gosal said that the meeting began with tributes to former teachers who had passed away. Subsequently, members reiterated their demand for a “cashless medical scheme” for retired UT teachers.
Krishan Kumar Tejpal suggested that, with the cooperation of the concerned department, an “on-the-spot” camp should be organised to resolve pension-related difficulties faced by retired teachers. General Secretary Sumesh Verma assured members that the association would stand by retired teachers in their joys and sorrows and help them overcome their difficulties.
Dr. Gulzar Singh and Jeet Singh Somal also shared their views on strengthening the association. Madam Vikramjit Kaur also put forward a suggestion regarding its establishment, although the specific detail was not clear in the source report.
At the conclusion, Bahadar Singh Gosal thanked all the teachers and officers for attending the meeting and sharing their valuable suggestions.
