Nawanshahr:- Red Cross Integrated Rehabilitation Center for Drug Victims Nawanshahr celebrated ‘International Women’s Day’ at Government ITI Nawanshahr, which was presided over by Mrs. Neelam Rani (Principal). Speaking on the occasion, Chaman Singh (Project Director) said that International Women’s Day is celebrated every year on March 8 to honor the achievements of women and create awareness about gender equality. Today, women are an important part of society and women have an equal contribution to men in almost every field.
International Women’s Day is celebrated with the aim of increasing this contribution of women and making women aware of their rights and improving their lives. In 1908, a labor movement took place in America, in which a large number of working women participated. About 15,000 women marched on the streets of New York and raised their voices for their rights. Working women demanded that their working hours be reduced and the pay scale be increased. Women also demanded the right to vote.
A year after such a large number of women raised their voices for their rights, in 1909 the Socialist Party of America announced the celebration of Women's Day. This year, the theme of International Women's Day 2026 is "Giving to Get". This theme emphasizes the empowerment of women, mutual support, sharing of knowledge and sharing of time and resources for social progress. Working together for women's education, health, and economic progress, which benefits the entire society.
To reduce violence against women, there is a need to change the human mentality. Even though women are working equally with men in society, women are still not being given their due place. On this occasion, Mrs. Jaswinder Kaur, Councilor and Mrs. Kamaljit Kaur, Councilor, presented poems on International Women's Day and made the gathering aware of women's rights. And the students present there also presented their views.
