Sahibzada Ajit Nagar, September 30:- The district administration has completed preparations for the smooth conduct of government procurement of paddy during the Kharif Season 2026-27. Arrangements have been made for the procurement of approximately 2,06,148 metric tonnes of paddy through 18 procurement centres in the district. Besides, the process of allotment of rice mills and their linkage with procurement centres is also underway as per the prescribed rules.
Deputy Commissioner Smt. Komal Mittal appealed to farmers to bring only fully dried paddy to the mandis so that they do not face any difficulty in selling their produce. She said that the district administration has ensured all necessary arrangements in the mandis for the convenience of farmers and that no difficulty would be allowed to arise for farmers during government procurement.
The Deputy Commissioner appealed to farmers not to burn paddy straw and other crop residue and said that it should be managed through agricultural machinery and scientific methods. She said that proper management of crop residue helps in protecting the environment as well as maintaining soil fertility.
District Food and Supplies Controller Varinder Kumar said that the department, in coordination with the Mandi Board and various procurement agencies, has completed the necessary arrangements for government procurement commencing from October 1. He said that 33 rice mills have already been allotted in the district, while the process of allotment and linkage of the remaining rice mills is also underway as per the prescribed rules.
He said that the required staff has been deployed at all the concerned mandis and arrangements related to procurement, lifting and storage are being continuously monitored. He said that all necessary steps have been taken by the department to provide farmers with uninterrupted and smooth procurement facilities.
