Mahilpur:- PAU-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Bahowal, Hoshiarpur organized a vocational training program on “Cloth Decoration through Traditional and Modern Techniques” from July 6 to 14, 2026. The training saw a large participation of 24 rural women and college going girls who were eager to enhance their skills in fabric design and decoration.
Assistant Professor (Home Science) from Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, Dr. Rajinder Kaur and Program Assistant (Lab Technician) from Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Rupnagar, Mrs. Manpreet Kaur provided information on various topics through practical and theoretical sessions to gain expertise in cloth decoration. The trainees were taught sewing techniques as well as basic hand embroidery stitches.
Apart from this, modern techniques like block printing, tie-dye, and stencil painting were also demonstrated. The experts explained how rural women and girls can leverage their newly acquired skills in fashion designing to create self-employment opportunities.
On the last day of the program, Dr. Maninder Singh Bounce, Associate Director (Training), PAU-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Hoshiarpur, while addressing the trainees, said that the aim of this initiative is to empower women through skill development, preserve cultural heritage and promote economic self-reliance through entrepreneurship.
Dr. Under the supervision of Prabhjot Kaur, the trainees enthusiastically displayed a variety of beautifully crafted textile decorative products, using the skills acquired during the training.
