Hoshiarpur: Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer Aashika Jain stated that, in accordance with the schedule issued by the State Election Commission, Punjab, polling for the Hoshiarpur Municipal Corporation General Elections 2026 will be held on July 5, 2026.
She mentioned that the Punjab Government has made special provisions to ensure maximum voter participation in the election process and to provide an opportunity to exercise their right to vote for those employees working in registered shops and commercial establishments who are registered as voters within the jurisdiction of the respective local bodies.
The Deputy Commissioner stated that, exercising the powers conferred under Section 10(1) of the Punjab Shops and Commercial Establishments Act, 1958, and other relevant powers, the Governor of Punjab has granted an exemption from the provisions of Section 10(1) of the said Act to employees working in registered shops and commercial establishments in the state who are voters of the Hoshiarpur Municipal Corporation. This exemption applies to the polling day, July 5, 2026, enabling them to exercise their right to vote freely.
She clarified that the leave granted for voting on July 5, 2026 (Sunday), will not be considered a substitute for the employees' weekly off. If an employee's weekly off is scheduled between July 5 and July 11, 2026, the polling day of July 5 will not be treated as a 'closed day' or a weekly off.
The Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer appealed to all eligible voters to exercise their right to vote on July 5 to strengthen democracy.
