Dera Bassi, October 4 (Sanjeev Singh Saini):- Construction of a new high-level bridge over the Ghaggar River at Mubarikpur, replacing the existing causeway on the Dhakoli-Dera Bassi road, will begin on Monday. The foundation stone of the project will be laid by local MLA Kuljit Singh Randhawa. The bridge, to be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs. 29.44 crore, will be approximately 300 metres long, with a target of completing its construction within 18 months.

According to MLA Randhawa, he had been continuously raising his voice in the Legislative Assembly for the construction of this bridge for the past three years. He said that the condition of the existing causeway has deteriorated considerably and currently only light vehicles are able to pass through it.

The construction of the new high-level bridge will provide a major convenience to thousands of people who commute daily. Besides, industrial activities in the area are expected to receive a boost and the movement of freight vehicles will become smoother. The MLA said that the project would benefit around 2.5 lakh people in the surrounding areas in terms of road connectivity.

After the foundation stone-laying ceremony, MLA Randhawa will also address a public gathering. He said that the new bridge would play an important role in improving the transportation system of the area.
