Patiala:- A programme was organised under the patronage of Deputy Director-cum-Principal Ms. Dipali at Government ITI Model Town, Patiala, to educate NCC cadets about prevention and protection from rabies on the occasion of National Rabies Day. During the programme, Chief Trainer of the First Aid, Safety, Health and Awareness Mission and retired Training Supervisor, Red Cross, Mr. Kaka Ram Verma, stated that more than 12 lakh people, including children and youth, died in the country due to rabies last year.
He said that even today, treatment becomes impossible after the onset of rabies. He said that rabies can occur through the bite or licking by any animal, or through their saliva or nails. Mr. Kaka Ram Verma said that valuable lives can be saved through proper treatment and first aid.
He said that the wound should be washed 10 times with clean water and soap, followed by treatment as advised by doctors, and that pet animals must be vaccinated every year.
Lieutenant Jagdish Singh Joshi and Lecturer Sukhdev Singh, while expressing their gratitude, said that training, practice and information regarding personal safety, health, well-being and saving valuable lives during emergencies for students, teachers and citizens would prove helpful in prevention and protection in the future. The students were requested to ensure that this information is also shared in their villages and neighbourhoods.
