Patiala, November 6 - To reduce maternal and child mortality, the main objective of the National Health Mission, the Health Department celebrates Mother's Day every Wednesday at the health center/district level and immunizes pregnant women and newborns to protect them from deadly diseases.
As per the directions of Civil Surgeon Dr. Sanjay Kamra, District Immunization Officer Dr. Kushaldeep Gill supervised the celebration of Mother's Day at Sub-Centers Kasiyana and Deep Nagar, Anand Nagar.
District Immunization Officer Dr. Kushaldeep Gill said that on these Mother's Days, pregnant women are given free tetanus vaccines, iron folic acid tablets for blood boosting, and calcium tablets.
Similarly, children are given vaccines against deadly diseases like diphtheria, whooping cough, tuberculosis, polio, meningitis, measles, jaundice, pneumonia and tetanus and free Vitamin A solution is also given to prevent blindness in children so that the national targets can be met on time by reducing maternal and child mortality.
During the checking by Dr. Kushaldeep Gill, the vaccines being administered at these sessions, needles and syringes being used for vaccination and the cold chain status of the vaccines as well as the vaccination register were also checked. Dr. Jatinder was also with him.
