Sangrur, June 26:- Punjab State Food Commission Member Jasvir Singh Sekhon conducted a surprise inspection of government ration depots located at villages Burj Sedha and Jakhla in Sangrur district to review the effective implementation of the National Food Security Act, 2013.
During the inspection, the quality, weight, moisture content of the food grains received in the depots and the arrangements related to the ration distribution system were thoroughly reviewed. On this occasion, along with weighing various bags of food grains on a fork, a technical inspection was also done using a moisture meter.
During the inspection, some technical aspects related to the quality and moisture of the food grains came to light, in view of which the concerned officials were instructed to take immediate necessary corrective action. Apart from this, instructions were also issued to immediately install information boards in the depots where the helpline number of the Punjab State Food Commission and other necessary information were not displayed.
Member Jasvir Singh Sekhon directed the concerned officers to ensure that the food grains supplied to the ration depots are as per the prescribed quality standards. He said that regular checking of the quality, weight and moisture of the food grains should be done and complete transparency and accountability should be maintained in the ration distribution process, so that every eligible beneficiary gets quality ration on time as per the prescribed quantity.
He said that the Punjab State Food Commission is fully committed to the effective implementation of the National Food Security Act, 2013. The Punjab State Food Commission will continue to conduct such surprise inspections from time to time to protect the interests of the beneficiaries and further strengthen transparency and accountability in the public distribution system.
