Kullu:- A painful road accident took place in Kullu's Lag Valley on Thursday afternoon. On the Badhai-Bagan-Pij link road, a Tata Sumo taxi full of passengers lost control and fell into a deep gorge. Three women died on the spot in the accident, while nine people including the driver were injured. The condition of some of the injured is said to be serious.
According to the information received, the Tata Sumo taxi was going from Bagan to Kullu. A total of 12 people including the driver were in the vehicle. As soon as the vehicle reached a sharp bend on the Badhai-Bagan-Pij road, the driver lost control. After this, the vehicle first hit a hill and then fell into a deep gorge below the road. After the accident, chaos and cries of grief arose at the scene.
As soon as the news of the incident was received, Kullu Sadar MLA (Sundar Singh Thakur), local administration officials, police, fire department and health department teams - including ambulances - reached the spot. Relief and rescue operations were immediately launched with the help of local villagers. Due to the depth of the gorge, pulling out the injured proved to be a difficult task. Confirming the accident, Kullu Superintendent of Police Madan Lal Kaushal said that a police team was immediately sent to the spot on receiving the information.
All the injured were rescued and taken to the Kullu Regional Hospital, where they are currently undergoing treatment. The police have started an investigation to ascertain the cause of the accident. The deceased in the accident have been identified as Surendra's wife Kala Devi (40), Devi Singh's wife Maina Devi (37); and Budhi Singh's wife Kala Devi (40), - all residents of Bhedar in Kullu tehsil and district.
Meanwhile, the injured include driver Jai Singh (43), Savitri (45), Anju (26), Moola Devi (39), Kamla (35), Ayansh (6), Tara Thakur (25), Promila Devi (35) and Chaitru (37). All the injured are said to be residents of Bhedar village in Kullu tehsil and district. As soon as the news of the accident was received, a wave of grief swept through the families of the deceased and injured. The police have taken the bodies for postmortem and have started further proceedings.
