Krishi Vigyan Kendra organized a Field Day on PAU tractoroperated paddy mattype nursery seeder

Hoshiarpur: Under the ongoing 'Khet Bachao Muhim' (Save the Field Campaign), the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Bahowal, Hoshiarpur—a district-level extension wing of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana—organized a Field Day at village Behlolpur. The event focused on the paddy nursery sown using the PAU tractor-operated mat-type nursery seeder.
Chabbewal MLA Dr. Ishank Kumar attended as the Chief Guest, while Chief Agriculture Officer, Hoshiarpur, Dr. Dapinder Singh, was present as the Guest of Honor.
Welcoming the guests and farmers, Dr. Maninder Singh Bons, Associate Director (Training) at PAU-KVK, shared information about the center's extension activities aimed at farmers' welfare. He explained that mechanical transplantation of paddy requires 'mat-type' seedlings, and the efficiency of mechanical transplantation heavily depends on the quality of these seedlings. To make sowing easier and faster, PAU, Ludhiana, has recommended the tractor-operated mat-type nursery seeder machine.
In his presidential address, MLA Dr. Ishank Kumar reiterated the Punjab Government's commitment to farmers' welfare and informed them about various government facilities. He stated that Punjab's economy depends on agriculture and the state government is taking every necessary step for its improvement. He praised the work of the Krishi Vigyan Kendra and encouraged local farmers to take full advantage of its services and training programs. He emphasized that mechanical transplantation is the need of the hour and farmers should adopt this technique on a large scale.
Chief Agriculture Officer Dr. Dapinder Singh highlighted the farmer welfare schemes run by the department and urged farmers to adopt the latest agricultural recommendations of PAU, especially techniques for conserving natural resources.
To enhance farmers' technical knowledge, experts from various fields interacted with the farmers. Dr. Parminder Singh, Associate Professor (Animal Science), provided detailed information on animal care and feeding during summer. Dr. Ajaib Singh, Assistant Professor (Farm Machinery), shared important points to keep in mind while using the PAU mat-type nursery seeder, while Agriculture Officer Dr. Kirandeep Singh provided information on balanced fertilizer use and integrated nutrient management for Kharif crops.
The event was attended by progressive farmers including Varinder Kumar (Behlolpur), Onkar Singh, Kulvir Singh, Baljit Singh, and Tarsem Singh (Thinda), Gurdeep Singh (Kot Fatuhi), and Daljit Singh (Data).
The guests and farmers visited the nursery sown using the PAU tractor-operated seeder and expressed their satisfaction. Gurmel Singh, a former Sarpanch and progressive farmer from village Kot Fatuhi, has been successfully using this machine for the last four years to prepare nursery for mechanical transplantation of paddy on approximately 200 acres; he was honored by the Chief Guest for his efforts.
For the convenience of farmers, mineral mixtures, premixes, bypass fat for livestock, and agricultural literature were made available. Finally, village Behlolpur Sarpanch Jaspreet Singh formally thanked the guests, experts, and the participating farmers.
