Nawanshahr:- International Mother Language Day was celebrated at Red Cross Drug Abuse Detoxification Center, Nawanshahr, which was presided over by Mr. Chaman Singh (Project Director). In his address, he first said that millions of congratulations on this day to those who love and respect their mother language. He said that this day is celebrated every year on 21st February.
He said that mother language is the root of a person's identity, culture and heritage. Mother language means a child who learns from his mother's lap. The main objective of celebrating this day is to promote linguistic and cultural diversity and spread awareness about the importance of mother language and Punjabi is very important for respecting and promoting mother language.
Mother language is not just a means of communication but is a treasure of our rich heritage such as Sufi poetry, Gurbani and folk songs, various forms of literature etc. The goal is to promote Punjabi mother tongue in schools, colleges, and connect the younger generation with the mother tongue and heritage. Encourage writing, reading, and speaking Punjabi. International Mother Language Punjabi Day inspires us to take a pledge that we will maintain the dignity and respect of our mother tongue Punjabi.
We should teach Punjabi to our children. To be a true Punjabi is to respect the language in which we learned to say mother like a mother. He also shared a poem that sheds light on the current state of the mother tongue. On this occasion, Parvesh Kumar presented his thoughts.
