New Delhi/Bengaluru/Mumbai/Hyderabad:- Due to new aviation safety rules, the country's largest airline, IndiGo, is facing a crew shortage for the third consecutive day. This has severely affected IndiGo's operations. According to news agency PTI, more than 300 IndiGo flights were cancelled at more than 10 airports, including Delhi and Mumbai, on Thursday.
A passenger at Pune airport reported waiting for more than eight hours. Both the floors of the airport were full of passengers. Three passengers also fainted. There was no communication from the airline about the flight cancellation.
A total of 95 IndiGo flights were cancelled at Delhi airport. Of these, 48 were domestic and international flights departing from Delhi and 47 were arriving. 86 were cancelled in Mumbai, 50 in Bengaluru, 70 in Hyderabad, 4 in Jaipur and 3 in Indore.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation has revised the safety rules for all airlines, which govern the work of pilots and other crew members, effective from November 1. IndiGo airlines has been particularly affected by this change. On Thursday, IndiGo officials met the DGCA to discuss the matter.
IndiGo has the largest fleet, so its impact is also greater
The airline operates around 2,300 domestic and international flights daily. This is almost double the number of flights operated by Air India in a day.
On this scale, if even 10-20 percent of flights are delayed or cancelled, it means 200-400 flights will be affected, causing considerable inconvenience to thousands of passengers. On Wednesday, more than 200 IndiGo flights were affected.
