Chandigarh, October 27:- The Haryana government has taken another significant and distinctive initiative in the interests of farmers and entrepreneurs associated with the state’s agriculture and horticulture sectors. The state government has now included beekeeping under the “Mukhyamantri Bagwani Bima Yojana,” paving the way for greater financial security and relief for those engaged in this business.

Sharing details of this important decision, Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Shyam Singh Rana said that the government’s policy would considerably reduce the concerns of beekeeping entrepreneurs and farmers about losses caused by natural disasters and unforeseen incidents. He explained that the scheme would cover losses caused by bee boxes and colonies being submerged during floods, destruction due to fire, and accidents during transportation, provided the accident occurs within Haryana and an official FIR or DDR is registered in connection with the incident.

In addition, compensation will also be available for losses caused by epidemics affecting honeybees.

Explaining the scheme’s framework and eligibility criteria, the Agriculture Minister said that a maximum limit of 250 bee colonies and boxes per beekeeper has been fixed to avail of the insurance benefit. Registration under the “Bhavantar Bharpai Yojana–Honey” will also be mandatory, and each box must carry the unit number assigned under the Bhavantar Bharpai Yojana.

Regarding the insurance premium and compensation, Shyam Singh Rana said that the premium has been kept nominal at ₹50 per colony and ₹50 per box. In return, farmers will receive insurance coverage of ₹1,250 per colony and ₹1,250 per box. The maximum insured amount can reach ₹3,12,500 per colony and ₹3,12,500 per box.

The Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister urged beekeepers to make maximum use of the scheme. For detailed information, they can contact the District Horticulture Officer in their respective districts or call the Horticulture Department, Haryana’s toll-free number, 1800-180-2021, for assistance.
