Hoshiarpur: The Education Department recently opened the station selection portal for teachers who had been awaiting transfers for a long time. However, many teachers were unable to select a station due to discrepancies (mismatches) in their service data, leading to significant disappointment. The Government Teachers Union has urged the Punjab Government and the Education Department to allow these teachers—who have a genuine need for transfer—to rectify their service data and select a station, thereby enabling them to apply for a transfer. This demand was voiced by Government Teachers Union district leaders Narinder Ajnoha, Paramjit Katib, and Onkar Singh.
The leaders appealed to the Punjab Government to waive the probation period requirement. This would allow teachers currently serving in remote schools to transfer to schools closer to their homes, relieving them of mental stress and enabling them to teach students more effectively.
The leaders further suggested that the Education Department simplify the transfer process and facilitate general transfers at the district level. They proposed conducting more than two rounds of transfers—covering both intra-district and inter-district moves—to ensure that teachers seeking transfers can derive maximum benefit from the process.
