Una, 02 June: The dream of a concrete house is now becoming a reality for 48-year-old Manjeet Kaur, who used to spend nights worrying about her family's safety under the leaking roof of a mud house during the rainy season. A resident of Gram Panchayat Saloh in Development Block Haroli, Manjeet Kaur has received assistance under the 'Mukhyamantri Ekal Nari Awas Yojana' with the support of the Himachal Pradesh Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board, which has enabled the construction of her new home.
Manjeet Kaur explains that after her husband's demise about eight years ago, the entire responsibility of the family fell on her shoulders. She relied on MNREGA and daily wage labor to raise her two sons, provide for their education, and manage household expenses. Due to limited income, building a concrete house was a distant dream. For years, the family lived in a mud house, where they faced many difficulties, especially during the rainy season.
After working for more than 90 days under MNREGA, she learned that she was eligible for registration with the Himachal Pradesh Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board. Following the registration, she received the benefit of the 'Mukhyamantri Ekal Nari Awas Yojana', paving the way for the construction of a concrete house.
She has already received one lakh rupees as the first installment for the house construction. Currently, the work on casting the roof (linter) of the house is underway. She will receive a second installment of one lakh rupees in the next phase, while two additional installments of 50 thousand rupees each will be released upon the completion of the construction.
Expressing her gratitude to Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and the state government, Manjeet Kaur said that government schemes have given new hope to needy families like hers.
District Labor Welfare Officer Aman Sharma stated that more than 6.26 crore rupees in assistance has been provided to 1,166 workers under various welfare schemes in Una district so far. Meanwhile, Board Chairman Nardev Singh Kanwar, Secretary & Chief Executive Officer Rajiv Kumar, and Deputy Commissioner Una Jatin Lal said that the government and the Board are continuously working for the social and economic empowerment of workers so that the benefits of schemes can reach eligible families on time.
