Bathinda, June 4: The Punjab government is set to provide financial assistance to farmers to promote the direct seeding of paddy. To avail of this benefit, farmers must register on the portal https://agrisubsidy.agrimachinerypb.com/#/dsr-registration before June 15. Providing this information, Chief Agriculture Officer Dr. Harpreetpal Kaur stated that farmers can register on the portal until the June 15 deadline.
The Punjab government is making every possible effort to curb the continuously declining groundwater level. With the goal of saving water, the Agriculture Department is offering financial assistance of 1500 rupees per acre to farmers who practice direct seeding of paddy during the Kharif 2026 season. She explained that direct seeding of paddy saves 15-20 percent of water and leads to 10-12 percent more groundwater recharge compared to traditional transplanting methods. Additionally, this method reduces labor costs, decreases the incidence of crop diseases, and helps in easier management of paddy straw, while also resulting in a higher yield for the subsequent wheat crop.
Dr. Harpreetpal Kaur urged farmers to register on the department's portal by June 15 to take advantage of the scheme. Farmers can register themselves using only their Aadhar card and the registered mobile number; their personal and bank details will be retrieved from the grain procurement/e-marketing portal.
Farmers only need to provide information regarding the area under direct seeding (in canals/marlas or bighas/biswas) and the location details, such as district, tehsil, village, khewat number, and khasra number. For more technical information or assistance with registration, farmers can contact Agriculture Department officials at the circle or block level.
