Mohali, 1 April 2026:- Chairman of the Punjab Mandi Board, S. Harchand Singh Barsat, while emphasizing that farmers will not face any kind of problem in the mandis for the purchase and sale of wheat during the Rabi season 2026-27, stated that under the leadership of the Chief Minister of Punjab, S. Bhagwant Singh Mann, proper arrangements have been made in mandis across the state for the convenience of farmers, commission agents, and labourers. The Rabi season 2026-27 has commenced from 1 April. For this, proper arrangements of cleanliness, electricity, drinking water, bathrooms, shade, etc. have already been made in mandis and procurement centers.
He informed that the Punjab Mandi Board has notified a total of 1896 mandis for the government procurement of wheat. Along with this, keeping in view the arrival of crops during the season, the process of declaring temporary procurement centers is also ongoing, under which 266 temporary mandis have been declared so far. The Chairman stated that for the procurement of wheat, the state has received a cash credit limit (CCL) of 30,973 crore rupees for the month of April. During the year 2026-27, the Minimum Support Price of wheat has been declared as 2585 rupees per quintal, which is 160 rupees more than last year. In the previous Rabi season, it was 2425 rupees per quintal.
He further informed that for the convenience of farmers during the season, a control room has been established at the head office of the Mandi Board. The control room can be contacted at telephone numbers 0172-5101649 and 0172-5101704 so that problems can be resolved immediately. He said that during the season, senior officials will visit mandis and conduct inspections. He directed all officers and employees to carry out wheat procurement operations efficiently with full dedication so that farmers can sell their crops without any difficulty and return home happily.
S. Barsat appealed to the commission agents and the labour community to come forward to serve farmers during the purchase and sale of crops in the mandis. He said that just as commission agents, labourers, and employees have supported farmers in the past, in the same way, this time as well, full assistance should be provided to farmers so that they do not face any difficulty in the mandis.
