Ambala, October 4 (R. Singh):- Farmers’ anger erupted over the shortage of gate passes issued for selling paddy in the mandis and the reduction in procurement limits. On the call of the Haryana Kisan-Mazdoor Morcha and Bharatiya Kisan Union (Shaheed Bhagat Singh), farmers held a massive protest against the state government on Sunday outside the office of the Market Secretary at the Ambala Cantt grain market located at GT Road, Mauhda, and burnt the effigies of the Chief Minister and the Prime Minister.
BKU (Bhagat Singh) spokesperson Manjit Singh said that farmers had registered on the “Meri Fasal-Mera Byora” portal in June when they sowed paddy, but despite the crop arriving in the mandis, their gate passes remain pending due to a lack of verification. Besides, reducing the paddy procurement limit from 30–33 quintals to 24 quintals per acre is direct injustice against farmers, while a decision for 30–33 quintals had been taken in a meeting of officials, which was also attended by their national president Amarjit Singh Mauhri.
Farmer leaders warned that if the government does not immediately rectify the shortcomings in the portal and remove the 24-quintal cap, the 15 organisations associated with the Kisan-Mazdoor Morcha will launch a massive statewide movement. The spokesperson said that the matter has also been brought to the notice of the DC Ambala and the SDM Ambala Cantt.
