Patiala, February 5:- Today, in Patiala, an effective convention of office-bearers and active workers of organisations related to Punjab AITUC, INTUC, CITU, C.T.U. Punjab, A.I.B.E.A., P.S.S.F., MNREGA, and Anganwadi was organised at Parwana Bhawan as part of preparations to make the nationwide strike scheduled for February 12, 2026 a success. More than 250 leaders and active comrades participated in this convention.
The convention was presided over by a presiding panel comprising Nirmal Singh Dhaliwal (AITUC), Chander Shekhar (CITU), Hari Singh Daun Kalan (C.T.U. Punjab), Bahadur Singh (INTUC), Darshan Singh Lubana (P.S.S.F. 1680, 22-B), and S.K. Gautam, representing bank employees’ leadership.
Addressing the convention, the main speakers said that the nationwide strike of February 12, called by 10 central trade union organisations and supported by the Samyukt Kisan Morcha, is being organised around several key demands. These include the repeal of the 4 labour codes, which were framed after scrapping 29 labour laws and are anti-worker in nature; restoration of the MGNREGA Act; repeal of the Electricity Bill and the Seed Bill 2025; fixing the minimum wage at ?26,000 per month; regularisation of contract and outsourced workers; restoration of the old pension scheme; stopping the privatisation of the public sector; granting worker status to scheme workers; controlling unemployment and inflation; and providing a legal guarantee of MSP, among other demands.
The speakers stated that more than 30 crore workers and affected people across the country will participate in the strike. There will be large-scale strike action in banks, transport, postal services, insurance, electricity, industries, MNREGA, Anganwadi, ASHA workers, mid-day meal workers, and government and semi-government institutions.
Apart from the leaders included in the presiding panel, other speakers who addressed the convention included Uttam Singh Bagri, Darshan Singh Lubana, Darshan Singh Belumajra, Harjit Kaur Panjola, and Hari Singh Tohra.
At the conclusion of the convention, the participants raised powerful slogans and pledged to work day and night to ensure the success of the strike. It was also announced that a meeting of farmers’ organisations and trade union leaders of Patiala district regarding the strike will be held tomorrow, dated 06-02-2026.
