New Delhi:- The National Statistics Office has increased the country's GDP-based economic growth rate estimates for the current financial year from 7.4 percent to 7.6 percent. The estimates have been increased after change in base year and revision in calculation method. This information has been given from official data released on Friday. The ministry has released a new series of annual and quarterly national accounts estimates, making 2022-23 the new base year.
Earlier, the base year was 2011-12. This is the ninth revision in the base year of the gross domestic product (GDP) series.
The ministry said that the size of GDP at constant prices in the financial year 2025-26 is estimated to be Rs 322.58 lakh crore, while in the year 2024-25 it was Rs 299.89 lakh crore. The growth rate in the financial year 2024-25 was 7.1 percent. According to the new series, the GDP growth rate in the October-December quarter of 2025-26 was 7.8 percent, which is higher than 7.4 percent in the same quarter a year ago.
This increase was mainly due to the better performance of the manufacturing and services sectors. Along with this, the growth rate for the July-September 2025 quarter has been increased from 8.2 percent to 8.4 percent; however, the growth estimates for the April-June quarter have been reduced from 7.8 percent to 6.7 percent. Aditi Nair, Chief Economist, ICRA, said that the data is better than the estimates.
