Nawanshahr (Des Raj Bali):- The Red Cross Integrated Rehabilitation Centre for Addicts, Nawanshahr, organised an awareness camp under the “Drug-Free India Campaign” at Hans Raj Arya High School, Garhshankar, Hoshiarpur district. The camp was presided over by Seema Walia, Headmistress.
On this occasion, Chaman Singh, Project Director, explained the meaning of drug abuse to the students. He said that using any medicine or other intoxicating substance without medical advice amounts to drug abuse. He explained that students sometimes start using drugs after being lured by others or due to a lack of awareness.
He said that at a young age, students may begin with cigarettes and bidis and eventually become trapped in the vicious cycle of drugs such as heroin. Such substances can lead to serious illnesses in the future. Drug addiction and student life cannot go together, and students should have no association with drugs. Addiction destroys a person, and drug use never leads to success.
He appealed to the students not to be misled by strangers into using any kind of intoxicating substance. He stressed that awareness about drugs is essential to staying away from them. During the camp, all students and staff members took a pledge to stay away from drugs under the Drug-Free India Campaign.
Headmistress Seema Walia thanked the visiting Red Cross team and assured them that the school would extend full support to the Drug-Free India Campaign and the “War Against Drugs” initiative and continue to raise awareness among students.
Parvesh Kumar, school staff members Rajnish Kaur, Maya Devi, Harmanpreet Kaur, Ashok Kumar and Gagandeep, along with students, were present.
