Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar, September 7:- The ongoing anti-dengue campaign in the district has been further intensified to protect district residents from the life-threatening fever caused by dengue. Door-to-door checking is now also being conducted every Monday in high-risk and other sensitive areas of the district. Giving this information, Civil Surgeon Dr. Sangeeta Jain said that during these days, there is a greater possibility of breeding of the mosquito that spreads dengue fever. 
Therefore, as per the directions of the Punjab Government, door-to-door inspections are now also being conducted every Monday. Dr. Jain today visited different houses in Phase 9 of the city and checked containers. She was accompanied by a special checking team that had come from the state. While providing information to the public, Dr. Jain said that the larva of the mosquito that spreads dengue fever develops into a dangerous mosquito within a few days, which can even cause a person's death. 
This mosquito bites during the daytime and breeds in clean water. Dengue testing and treatment are available free of cost at government health institutions. For information, the Health Department's helpline number 104 can be contacted. District Epidemiologist Dr. Anamika Soni said that health teams inspected places where there was a possibility of water accumulation. Wherever water was found stagnant, insecticide was sprayed. The teams checked flower pots, coolers, refrigerators and other containers and appealed to people not to allow water to remain stagnant anywhere.
She said that dengue is a fever caused by the bite of a mosquito called Aedes aegypti. Common symptoms of dengue include severe headache and high fever, pain in the muscles and joints, pain behind the eyes, bleeding from the nose, mouth and gums in severe cases, nausea and vomiting, among others.
