Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar, October 17:- Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal has appealed to farmers in the district to bring only dry and fully matured paddy to the mandis so that the procurement process can be completed smoothly and farmers do not face any inconvenience. She also urged farmers not to burn crop residue and to adopt proper stubble management practices to protect the environment.
Reviewing paddy procurement arrangements in the district, the Deputy Commissioner said that 1,11,788 metric tonnes of paddy had arrived at the district's mandis so far, of which 1,11,262 metric tonnes had been procured. Similarly, 61,018 metric tonnes of paddy had been lifted so far. The total estimated arrival of paddy in the district during the current procurement season is expected to be 2,06,148 metric tonnes.
She said that bringing dry and fully matured paddy to the mandis speeds up the procurement process and helps ensure timely procurement and lifting. She directed the concerned procurement agencies and officials to maintain coordination and provide the necessary facilities to farmers at the mandis.
Highlighting the harmful effects of stubble burning, the Deputy Commissioner said that burning crop residue pollutes the air, adversely affects people's health and reduces soil fertility. She appealed to farmers to use the available machinery and scientific methods for stubble management and contribute to keeping the environment clean.
The Deputy Commissioner said that the district administration is committed to facilitating farmers and that necessary arrangements are being made to ensure uninterrupted paddy procurement and timely lifting at the mandis. She urged farmers to cooperate with the procurement process and help protect the environment for future generations.
