SAS Nagar, October 23- The President of the Confederation of Greater Mohali Residents Welfare Associations (Regd.) K.K. Saini has written a letter to the Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, SAS Nagar (Mohali) demanding to stop the repeated repair of potholes in the city and to repair the roads.
In this regard, during a meeting of representatives of Residents Welfare Associations under the leadership of the institution's president K.K. Saini, concern was expressed over the repeated formation of potholes on the city's roads and footpaths, saying that these potholes cause fatal accidents for two-wheeler riders and pedestrians.
Members said that the main reason for this is the old, leaking water supply, sewerage, and stormwater drainage lines, instead of solving which temporary patch-work is done on the roads, which neither lasts long nor provides any relief to the people. This certainly causes huge wastage of public funds.
During the meeting, it was demanded that a comprehensive technical audit and detection of defects in underground utilities be done before road restoration, a multi-departmental coordination committee (public health, roads, sewerage, and stormwater departments) be established for integrated and long-term solutions, accountability of repair contractors be ensured, and a city-wide maintenance plan be started for the protection of human lives, public property, and civic resources.
Copies of the letter have also been sent to the Chief Minister of Punjab, Local Bodies, Punjab's Additional Chief Secretary, Deputy Commissioner, Mohali, and Chief Administrator of GMADA.
