Hoshiarpur: An Early Cancer Detection and Eye Checkup Medical Camp, organized by M/s World Cancer Care (a UK-based charitable society) and sponsored by M/s Vardhman Threads Limited, Ludhiana/Hoshiarpur, was successfully held in Bhugarni village. In this emotional and challenging event, 507 patients from 19 villages underwent medical examinations from 10 AM to 4 PM.
For the past six months, Dr. AS Balgir, the chief organizer and coordinator, provided guidance and direction at every step. He ensured its success by working in close coordination with the World Cancer Care Jalandhar office and Vardhman Group officials, overcoming numerous obstacles. An awareness campaign was conducted in at least 20 surrounding villages by displaying banners with the beat of traditional drums and making repeated announcements in neighboring Gurdwaras.
The camp was inaugurated by Dr. Ishant Kumar, MLA from the Chabbewal constituency, as the chief guest. World Cancer Care representative Dr. Dharminder Singh Dhillon appealed to the people to get themselves examined in large numbers. Mr. Pradeep Dadwal of the Vardhman Group thanked World Cancer Care, the organizers, and all the agencies, expressing satisfaction with the effective success of the event.
In his welcome address, Dr. AS Balgir described it as a rare opportunity for cancer patients and recalled the blessings of Guru Har Rai Sahib's visit to Bhugarni in the 15th century and the supreme sacrifices made by Guru Gobind Singh Ji and his beloved Sahibzadas on this day, following the path of righteousness. Mr. Dharam Singh Janjua thanked the Bhugarni Panchayat members, villagers, and residents of neighboring villages for their cooperation.
A unique feature of the camp was the sharing of inspiring experiences by cancer survivors. Dr. SS Gosal, VC of PAU Ludhiana, Dr. Hardev Singh Parihar from the USA, and many prominent personalities from the region sent congratulatory messages. Some agencies also provided financial support.
School children actively collected written feedback from all the patients. The village headwoman, Smriti Gurdeep Kaur Janjua, passed a vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to everyone for their support, gracious presence, and the tireless efforts of those who worked behind the scenes.
