Haroli/Una, September 25 (Rajveer Chopra):- The 25th district-level conference of the Himachal Kisan Sabha concluded on Sunday at Saathi Karm Chand Hall. Farmer representatives and delegates from various areas of Una district participated in the conference.
The conference held detailed discussions on the problems and demands of farmers and the strategy for future struggles.
Himachal Kisan Sabha State President Kuldeep Singh Tanwar was specially present at the conference. Sabha Secretary K.K. Rana said that this was the 25th conference of the Una district unit of the Kisan Sabha.
During the conference, Ranjit Singh Malukpur presented the report of the previous term and gave details of the struggles undertaken by the Kisan Sabha and the achievements made during that period.
State President Kuldeep Singh Tanwar discussed in detail the international, national and Himachal-level circumstances concerning farmers. He said that farmers would have to organize themselves and struggle for their demands and rights. He alleged that governments are giving priority to the interests of industrialists and that huge loans of big industrialists are being waived.
At the same time, farmers burdened with small loans are facing difficulties and are being forced to take steps such as suicide.
The conference gave prominence to various issues concerning farmers and emphasized taking forward the struggle over farmers’ income, debt, fair prices for crops, agricultural costs and other issues related to farmers’ interests. The speakers said that farmers’ problems should be resolved not merely through assurances, but through concrete policies and effective measures.
During the conference, a 14-member district committee was constituted. Narinder Singh Majara was unanimously elected District President, K.K. Rana as Secretary and Ranjit Singh Malukpur as Treasurer.
Besides, Majid Khan was elected Vice-President, Dhalum Singh as Joint Secretary, while Joga Singh Majara, Kushal Kumar, Santokh Singh, Vikas Dutta, Sukhpal Singh, Surinder Sharma, Satish Chaudhary, Varhmanand and Jaswinder Singh were elected as members of the committee.
The new district committee also discussed the strategy for its upcoming activities. The Kisan Sabha made it clear that in the coming period, village-to-village outreach and struggles over farmers’ demands and local agricultural issues would be intensified, so that farmers’ voices could be conveyed strongly to the government and administration.
