Karnal, July 2: A meeting regarding the monitoring of Urea and DAP fertilizer supplies was held today at the District Secretariat auditorium, presided over by Deputy Commissioner Dr. Anand Kumar Sharma. During the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner instructed the concerned officials to ensure that farmers face no difficulties regarding Urea and DAP. He directed them to take immediate action upon receiving any information regarding black-marketing, hoarding, or suspicious activity related to fertilizers, and to register an FIR if necessary.
He stated that the government is taking this matter very seriously. The monitoring mechanism for the supply of Urea and DAP must be strengthened. Farmers should not face any inconvenience, and the black-marketing or hoarding of fertilizers will not be tolerated at any cost. Concerned officials and supervisors must perform their duties with utmost integrity and take immediate action if any suspicious activity regarding fertilizers is observed. Long queues often form for fertilizers; therefore, it must be ensured that the distribution process is completely transparent. He also instructed Assistant Registrar Aditi Sengar to conduct regular inspections.
During the meeting, Deputy Director of Agriculture Dr. Wazir Singh informed that the district requires one lakh metric tonnes of Urea. So far, 68,000 metric tonnes have been received, out of which 58,000 metric tonnes have already been distributed, leaving a balance of 10,000 metric tonnes. He explained that 60 percent of the Urea is made available to farmers through HAFED, while 40 percent is supplied through private dealers. In Haryana, the price of a 45-kg bag of Neem-coated Urea is fixed at approximately ?266.50 after government subsidies. Similarly, the government-fixed Maximum Retail Price (MRP) for a 50-kg bag of DAP fertilizer is ?1,350. He further reported that due to observed irregularities, the licenses of eight dealers have been suspended, and those of four others have been cancelled. Additionally, an FIR has been registered against one individual.
Representatives from various private companies were present at the meeting, including Assistant Commissioner (Under Training) Soham Shailendra, Deputy Director of Agriculture Dr. Wazir Singh, Assistant Registrar Aditi, Baljit Singh (Hafed), Mohit (IFFCO), Inspectors Malkit Singh, Sandeep Kamboj, Kashmiri Lal, Sushil Kumar, and Randhir Singh, as well as Field Officer Kartik (KRIBHCO), Deputy Manager Rajiv Kumar (HURL), and Rohit Kumar (NFL).
