Patiala, September 06:- On the eighth day of the district-level indefinite protest organized by Bharatiya Kisan Union (Ekta Ugrahan), leaders strongly advocated for building broad nationwide farmer unity. Speaking on the occasion, Senior Vice President Jagdeep Singh Chhanna informed that yesterday the organization staged blockades at various locations across the state, targeting district secretariats, police officers' residences, and banks.
These demonstrations were held as per their 13-point demand charter, seeking the cancellation of false cases registered against farmers and laborers during struggles, compensation for crop damage due to adverse weather, and solutions to electricity supply issues.
Farmers in Patiala district staged a symbolic four-hour blockade at the Cooperative Agriculture Development Bank, demanding the complete waiver of debts for farmers and laborers. He warned that if the government fails to provide a satisfactory response regarding debt relief, an indefinite blockade outside the bank will be launched.
District General Secretary Sukhminder Singh Baran briefed about upcoming programs and stressed the need for unity among various ongoing struggles, outlining the organization's policy on water issues while exposing the political tactics used by voting parties. District Organization Secretary Balraj Joshi emphasized preserving the solidarity built with Haryana and other states in recent years.
Among others present were Democratic Teachers Front leader Talwinder Singh Kharour, District Finance Secretary Jagmail Singh Gajewas, Avtar Singh Fagganmajra, and Bharpoor Singh Gajewas.
