Chandigarh:- Giving a big relief to students, the Punjab government has approved an extension in the time for updating digitized birth certificates on the Unified Student Registration Portal for the academic session 2026-27. Announcing this, Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains said that students of class 8, who do not have a digitized birth certificate, have been given time till October 30, 2026 to obtain the document and update it on the portal. Similarly, students of class 9 and 10 have been given time till the next academic session to make the necessary corrections during the registration process and update it.
Bains said that this decision reflects the commitment of the state government led by Chief Minister Mann to bring digital reforms in school education, due to which no student has to face any kind of problem due to official action.
He said, "Our government is fully committed to introducing a paperless, transparent and efficient education system through the Unified Student Registration Portal. However, we are well aware of the practical challenges faced by students and parents. This increase is a testament to our comprehensive approach. We are modernizing our processes, but we will not let process-related hurdles become a hindrance to the education of children." The Education Minister asked all school heads to coordinate with parents and ensure that the registration process is completed smoothly within the stipulated time frame. This decision is part of the Punjab government's broader vision of using technology to improve governance by prioritizing the interests of students.
