Bhawanigarh, June 03:- Senior Superintendent of Police, Sangrur, Dr. Ravjot Kaur Grewal, stated that during the ongoing 'War against Drugs' campaign, the Bhawanigarh police sub-division arrested a total of 20 accused in various cases between May 27 and June 01.
Highlighting the police performance, Dr. Ravjot Kaur Grewal said that under the supervision of DSP Satnam Singh, the police counseled 05 individuals addicted to drugs. With the consent of their family members, these individuals were taken to a de-addiction center to begin their treatment.
The district police chief further informed that during this period, 03 cases were registered under the NDPS Act, leading to the arrest of 07 accused. Recoveries included 5 kg of poppy husk, 9,000 intoxicating capsules, and 100 intoxicating tablets. Additionally, in a case reported on May 29, 2026, regarding the theft of an electric motor cable at Chandni Tourist Complex, the culprit was traced and arrested, and 62 feet of cable wire were recovered.
Dr. Ravjot Kaur Grewal (IPS) added that the Bhawanigarh police checked 61 suspicious individuals and took action under section 172 of the BNSS. During day and night patrolling, 37 traffic challans were issued for rule violations. Furthermore, 27 public complaints were resolved.
She stated that DSP Satnam Singh and the Station House Officer (SHO) of Bhawanigarh are continuously holding awareness meetings to educate people about traffic rules and the harmful effects of drugs.
The SSP appealed to the public to cooperate in the anti-drug campaign. She mentioned that police-public meetings were held through Village Defense Committee members in various areas under Bhawanigarh police station. Meetings with panchayats, sports clubs, and prominent citizens are being conducted to raise awareness among youth and the public. 
She noted that people have been encouraged to inform the police about drug smugglers so that this menace can be eradicated from its roots. She assured the public that the Sangrur police are taking strict action against drug peddlers and anti-social elements.
