Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar, November 5:- The Census Department, Punjab, in collaboration with the Deputy Commissioner-cum-Principal Census Officer, Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar, organised a two-day awareness campaign on Census 2027 at Shaheed Balbir Singh Hockey Stadium, SAS Nagar, on November 4 and 5, 2026.

The awareness stall was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner-cum-Principal Census Officer, Mrs Komal Mittal, IAS. Additional Deputy Commissioner Mrs Geetika Singh, PCS, also attended the inauguration along with members of her census team.

The campaign was organised alongside the hockey matches of the Asian Champions Trophy 2026 being held at the stadium under the Punjab Government's 'India Ka Game' programme. This provided an excellent opportunity to reach a large number of spectators, particularly young students, and spread awareness about the upcoming Census 2027.

As part of the campaign, attractive display stands on the theme of Census 2027 and specially designed selfie points were set up at the stadium. These installations were intended to engage visitors and make them aware of Census 2027. The interactive arrangements particularly encouraged young people and school students to take photographs and share their participation in the census awareness campaign. This initiative made the campaign more engaging and participatory.

On the occasion, the Census Department provided information about the various stages of Census 2027 and appealed to citizens to actively participate in this important census exercise. According to the programme announced by the Government of India, the self-enumeration process in Punjab will be conducted from November 16 to 30, 2026. This will be followed by a house-to-house population enumeration from December 1, 2026, to January 4, 2027. The revision process will subsequently be conducted from January 5 to 9, 2027.

The spectators were informed that through the self-enumeration facility, families can enter their household-related information online on the government's official self-enumeration portal before the commencement of the house-to-house census.

During the awareness campaign, the Census Department also distributed caps bearing the Census 2027 logo, informative pamphlets and notepads among visitors to the stadium. The logo caps particularly attracted the attention of school students, who received them enthusiastically. The caps also proved useful for students watching the hockey matches in the sunny weather.

Through these innovative promotional activities, including interactive selfie points, attractive display stands and the distribution of publicity material bearing the census logo, the Census Department aimed to establish direct contact with citizens, particularly the younger generation, spread awareness about Census 2027 and encourage maximum public participation in this important national exercise.
