Hoshiarpur – Under the guidance of Civil Surgeon, Hoshiarpur, Dr. Mandeep Kamal, Mr. Tarsem Lal—District Mass Education and Information Officer (Mass Media Wing)—conducted an awareness session regarding various health programs at PM Shri Government Senior Secondary School, Nasrala.
Providing details in this regard, District Mass Education and Information Officer Tarsem Lal raised awareness about health programs and encouraged students to always consume clean and safe drinking water, as well as nutritious food. He imparted health education regarding the availability of free treatment at the nearest District Hospital in cases of snakebites or dog bites. Furthermore, he raised awareness regarding the prevention of Hepatitis, the availability of free testing and treatment, and the AIDS Control Program, emphasizing that knowledge and awareness regarding these issues are crucial to ensure that children remain protected from such diseases.
He also provided information to the students regarding how patients can avail themselves of healthcare services under the Chief Minister's Cancer Relief Fund. Additionally, while raising awareness regarding the National Vector-Borne Disease Control Program, the Immunization Program, and the campaign against drug abuse, he encouraged the children to actively participate in sports. He stated that if children are engaged with sports and playgrounds right from their school days, the true objective of this campaign against drug abuse can be successfully achieved through collective effort.
Moreover, under the National Tobacco Control Program, he educated the children about the adverse effects of tobacco products, specifically emphasizing the importance of avoiding "passive smoking" (secondhand smoke). He explained that when an individual smokes in public places, the children, women, and elderly people standing nearby suffer even greater harm than the smoker themselves.
