Nawanshahr (Des Raj Bali):- As part of the Punjab Government’s ‘Yudh Nashe Virudh’ (War Against Drugs) campaign, the district administration organised an awareness drive on October 9 to educate people about the harmful effects of drugs in 19 villages of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar district. Village Defence Committees played an active role during the campaign, encouraging villagers to unite against drugs and fulfil their social responsibilities.

The awareness campaign was conducted in Mehndipur, Garhi Fateh Khan, Chakdana, Jadla, Jabbowal, Rattewal Khurd, Surapur, Dhaul, Bela Tajowal, Adoana, Jalalpur, Dhakdhana, Thanwala, Farala, Sandhwan, Khotran, Nagra, Sakohpur and Bakhlour.

During the campaign, people were informed about the physical, mental and social harms caused by drug abuse. Emphasis was also laid on keeping young people away from drugs, engaging them in sports and constructive activities, and ensuring active public participation in preventing drug abuse.

Atin Agnihotri, Doaba in-charge of the Nasha Mukti Morcha, said that the participation of every village and every family was essential to make the fight against drugs successful. He appealed to people to spread awareness against drug abuse and come forward to guide young people in the right direction.

District Coordinator Dinesh Suri said that continuous awareness, family support and social unity were crucial for preventing drug abuse. He added that public cooperation could help take concrete steps towards building a drug-free society.

District Vice-Coordinator Baljit Ram said that young people were the future of the country and society, and protecting them from drugs was a collective responsibility. He urged villagers to participate actively in the awareness campaign and encourage those in need to seek treatment and rehabilitation.

People were appealed to become part of the ‘Yudh Nashe Virudh’ campaign and contribute to building a drug-free society in collaboration with the administration, Village Defence Committees and social organisations.
